This short but jam-packed trip will provide you with the full African safari experience – without taking you away from your creature comforts for too long.
Day 1 Johannesburg to Greater Kruger, South Africa
From South Africa’s commercial capital, Johannesburg, we travel to South Africa’s famed Kruger National Park, passing panoramic scenery and dramatic escarpment views. From the dwarf mongoose to the Big Five, almost every major African mammal (over 145 species) is is free to roam the enormous area of the park, which also boasts prolific birdlife and over 330 varieties of trees. Over two nights within the Kruger area, we have the chance to enjoy the spectacle of Shangaan tribal dancing and singing, as well as a full day game drive in the park itself to spot as many animals as possible.
-Shangaan cultural evening
Day 2 Greater Kruger to Kruger National Park
Keep watch for as many of Africa’s diverse wildlife as you can. Lion, elephant, buffalo and giraffe are a pretty safe bet, whilst cheetah and leopard are a bit harder to find. Will you be the one to spot these speedy big cats? Make sure you have a list of some of the animals that you can tick off during the full day's game drive (think: wildlife bingo). You'll be the toast of the campsite after spotting an elusive honey badger, you can be guaranteed.
-Kruger National Park game drive
Day 3 Kruger National Park to Tshipise
Leaving the Greater Kruger area we travel north through South Africa’s lush countryside to Tshipise, a town situated in the northern Limpopo province. Our campsite is located at Forever Resorts at the foot of one of Limpopo’s rolling koppies set adjacent to the Honnet Nature Reserve.
Day 4 Tshipise to Matobo National Park, Zimbabwe
After a refreshing night’s sleep we make our way across the border to Zimbabwe and on to Bulawayo, a pleasant city with broad tree lined avenues and wide open spaces. Our campsite is located in the Matopos area, a historical, geological and natural heritage site which is surrounded by interesting hills and rock formations.
Day 5 Matobo National Park
Channel your inner explorer today as we head into the impressive Matobo National Park with our knowledgeable guides. The wind-sculptured Matobo Hills are the site of numerous Bushman paintings, so there's no surprise the area holds a special cultural and spiritual importance to the indigenous people. The reserve has the largest concentration of black and white rhino in Africa and, provided conditions are right, our guides will lead us on foot to some of the more concealed places in search of these magnificent animals.
-Half day Matobo National Park game drive & wilderness walk

Day 6 Matobo National Park to Livingstone , Zambia

Situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, our campsite makes for the perfect base in between heart-racing optional activities including rafting, canoeing, bungy jumping, abseiling, gorge swinging, horse riding, scenic flights and river cruises. Head out for a thrilling adventure, or simply relax and enjoy the mighty Zambezi as it flows past your vantage point.

Meet at 7am in Johannesburg
Approximately 10am in Livingstone
On our Camping trips, you will be staying in easy-to-assemble, two-person dome tents provided by us. Please try to keep the tent clean, zipped up and remember that no smoking, candles or mosquito coils are permitted in the tent. To keep pests away, we also ask that you not eat or leave food in your tent. Ain’t nobody got time for bugs.
Please note: You must provide your own sleeping bag on Camping trips.
Sometimes you just need your creature comforts. We totally get it. That’s why our Accommodated trips offer the same level of excitement and adventure as our Camping trips – except every day ends with a night in a comfortable bed in a range of safari cabins, tented camps and hostels.
Please note: Trips staying in Spitzkoppe and Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater will not be accommodated and two-person dome tents with a mattress and sleeping bag will be provided for these locations.
Campsites you will stay in vary considerably. The general standard in East Africa is modest, although
most have reasonable toilet and shower facilities. In southern Africa, the standard is usually somewhat higher. Occasionally we may camp out in the bush (with limited or no facilities).
In addition to meal assistance, there are other odd jobs you will be expected to undertake as part of any trip in Africa. We ask that you get involved in collecting firewood, lighting fires, filling water tanks, loading luggage, keeping the truck clean and even helping with the dishes. Lending a hand has never been so much fun, trust us.

One of the best parts of travelling is experiencing the nightlife and entertainment each city has to offer. However, amidst the fun and excitement, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and personal safety as well. Before you hit the road with us, it’s important to be aware of the following:
When you’re on a night out, remember to avoid walking alone, particularly through deserted areas like beaches and back streets. Always stick together, take a taxi where possible, and keep a note of your accommodation details so you can find your way back to your fellow Topdeckers if you become separated.
In some countries, alcoholic measures can be considerably larger than what you may be used to. Try to keep track of what you’re drinking, and if you see one of your trip mates looking a little worse for wear, take them back to your accommodation. Be cautious when accepting drinks from strangers and never leave your drink unattended.
It’s also important to be aware that what you might consider harmless flirting may be interpreted differently in some countries. Be yourself and have fun, but don’t be naïve, and be mindful of the signals you are sending out so that you don’t find yourself in an uncomfortable situation.
